Matt Ridley, a British science writer and former member of the House of Lords, expressed shock at the lack of investigation into the origin of COVID-19. Speaking to NTD’s “British Thought Leaders” (BTL) program, Ridley highlighted the rise of so-called citizen science, stating that amateur investigators have provided vital information that professional scientists, journalists, and spies have failed to uncover. He believes science needs to embrace uncertainty and treat ordinary people as capable of engaging in conversations. Ridley also called for a proper investigation into all theories, including the lab leak theory, which he believes is a strong likelihood but has not yet been definitively proven. He argued that investigating the origin of the virus is absolutely vital for preventing another pandemic and expressed shock at the lack of enthusiasm for this important task. Ridley concluded that science needs to regain public trust by sharing its doubts and uncertainties with the world.
