Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin is set to lead a trade delegation to Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea at the end of April to strengthen economic and cultural ties. The trip includes meetings with Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen, government officials, and business leaders. Youngkin has been vocal about his distrust of communist China and has prohibited the use of TikTok on government devices, pulled out of negotiations for a China-backed Ford Motor Co. plant, and signed a bill banning the sale of farmland to foreign adversaries, including China. The trip to Taiwan is expected to draw attention from China, which sees Taiwan as its territory. Virginia is home to many foreign-owned businesses, including five from Taiwan, 133 from Japan, and 25 from South Korea, according to Youngkin’s office.
