Victoria’s leader of the centre-right Liberal Party, John Pesutto, has announced his support for a second attempt to expel exiled MP Moira Deeming from the party. Despite her retraction of legal action threats, Pesutto believes Deeming should be expelled after her attendance at an anti-transgender rights rally in Melbourne where neo-Nazis carried out the “heil Hitler” salute. The motion to expel Deeming will take place on Friday during a party room meeting. Five MPs including former party leader Matthew Guy, James Newbury, Cindy McLeish, Roma Britnell, and Wayne Farnham proposed the motion. A previous vote in March resulted in her nine-month suspension. Pesutto aims to reform the party, taking his focus off Deeming’s comments. Federal Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has expressed his willingness to intervene in the Victorian division to resolve the conflict.
