Belgium has detained seven individuals, mainly of Chechen origin, on suspicion of planning a terrorist attack, as per the federal prosecutor’s office on Thursday. While the suspects had not yet chosen a target, the police still apprehended them for questioning. According to federal prosecutors, three of the suspects are Belgian citizens, and all seven belong to a group of strong ISIS supporters. The potential charges for their involvement include attempted terrorist assassination, participation in terrorist group activities, and preparation for a terrorist attack. Belgium has experienced multiple terrorist attacks in the past, with the most recent being the suicide bombings in 2016, which resulted in 32 fatalities and many injuries in the Brussels subway and airport.
