Polish and Ukrainian officials have announced that they will seal, guard, and monitor convoys of Ukrainian grain as it transits through Poland for export. The move comes after Polish farmers protested that the grain was causing a glut in the domestic market and hurting their profits. The agreement will ensure that no Ukrainian grain remains in Poland, with all produce passing through in transit. The transit is intended to help ease the accumulation of grain and other produce intended for export to needy countries that have been blocked in Ukraine by Russia’s invasion. The transit measures will be introduced on Friday, when the temporary ban on grain will be lifted. However, it is not yet clear when a ban on the entry of other Ukrainian goods such as sugar, eggs, meat, milk, dairy products, fruits, and vegetables will be lifted.
