Home Secretary Suella Braverman has stated that the UK government does not have any plans to establish “safe routes” for Sudanese refugees to seek asylum in Britain. More than 2,000 British nationals have already been evacuated from Sudan, which has been hit by violence. However, there are no current plans to provide a specific resettlement scheme for refugees fleeing the country. Immigration minister Robert Jenrick has warned that the conflict in Sudan will exacerbate the illegal immigration crisis in the English Channel. Foreign Secretary James Cleverly also noted that the UK cannot accommodate everyone affected by conflict in Sudan or any other country.
