The County of Grande Prairie in Alberta has issued a warning to its residents against “unsanctioned acts” that can put lives in danger amid the ongoing wildfires that have caused thousands of people to flee their homes and rural areas. The county claimed that a member of the public who used their personal bulldozer during the operation may have endangered firefighters and their equipment by knocking trees into fires and almost running over the crews. The statement emphasized that firefighting efforts are highly coordinated, and members of the public should not take matters into their own hands, even if they are well-intentioned. There are currently 83 active wildfires in the region, 21 of which are uncontrollable. As the temperatures continue to rise, the fires are expected to spread, posing a great risk to the residents who have been instructed to follow evacuation orders to protect themselves and their property. Alberta Premier Danielle Smith visited the fire zone on Friday and stated that a “pretty extensive fire guard for the city” has been approved. Furthermore, the Canadian Armed Forces will be deployed to assist with the blazes over the next few days, along with firefighters from other provinces and the United States.
