The funeral arrangements for Sgt. Eric Mueller, an officer who was shot and killed in Eastern Ontario, have been made. The police funeral will take place on Thursday, May 18 at the Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa, as announced by the Ontario Provincial Police.
According to reports, Mueller passed away after being shot early on Thursday while responding to a call for a disturbance at a home in Bourget, Ontario, along with two other officers.
The 42-year-old officer, who was a father of two, was ambushed along with the other officers, according to statements made by the OPP Commissioner Thomas Carrique. A 39-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder and two charges of attempted murder.
An emotional procession of police cars and motorcycles escorted Mueller’s body from the Ottawa Hospital to a funeral home in Rockland, Ontario. People showed their respect by standing outside their homes or pulling their vehicles to the side of the highway to watch the officers drive by, which was made available to the public through a police livestream of the event.
