The CEO of Twitter, Elon Musk, has defended the platform’s decision to restrict access to some content in Turkey ahead of the country’s election. Twitter declared that it had taken action on the request of the Turkish government, to ensure its availability to the people of Turkey. In response to criticism, Musk challenged Twitter users to decide whether they wanted the platform to be fully throttled or for access to at least some tweets to continue. Sunday’s Turkish election will decide whether current president Recep Tayyip Erdogan will stay in power or be ousted. Concerns have been raised about Turkey’s government’s restrictions on social media and its ability to control the internet.
