The federal health department is reevaluating its contracts with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) to ensure there are no conflicts of interest. The department has 12 contracts with PwC, which is currently under investigation by the Australian Federal Police for sharing confidential government briefings on multinational tax reform with partners and clients. The department is concerned about whether PwC staff shared information about health department programs with clients in the sector, particularly in aged care. The company has assured the department that it has processes in place to manage conflicts of interest, but the department is conducting a thorough review and seeking layers of information to verify the company’s claims. The ethics and integrity of consulting services will be the focus of a Senate inquiry on Wednesday.
