The leader of Canada’s Conservative Party, Pierre Poilievre, has challenged the Liberal government on its relationship with the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation after La Presse reported that the Foundation held a meeting in the building that houses the Prime Minister’s Office in 2016. During a House of Commons question period on April 24, Poilievre claimed that the Foundation had links to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and accused him of appointing two of its former directors to head up investigations into foreign interference. Poilievre also stated that the Foundation received donations from China-based donors, processed by Trudeau’s brother. The meeting, called “Roundtable Dialogue with Deputy Ministers and the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation,” was held on April 11, 2016. The Prime Minister’s Office denied that Trudeau or his staff knew of the meeting, or attended it. Five federal deputy ministers were present, alongside senior staff from the Privy Council Office.
