An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.3 occurred west of Sumatra Island in Indonesia, as reported by the country’s geophysics agency. The quake led to a tsunami warning for about two hours, but the warning has since been lifted. The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre initially measured the quake as 6.9 magnitude. The earthquake took place at a depth of 84 kilometers (52.2 miles) around 3 a.m. local time and was followed by a number of aftershocks. Local authorities are collecting data from the affected islands nearest to the quake’s epicenter. Indonesia frequently experiences tremors due to its location along the Pacific Ring of Fire.
