In June 2024, former fashion tycoon, Peter Nygard, will face trial in Quebec on charges of sexual assault.
Despite the announcement of the trial dates, the 81-year-old Nygard did not attend the hearing in Quebec and the trial will be heard by a judge only, from June 10 to June 18.
The charges relate to alleged incidents that involved one victim from Quebec between November 1997 and November 1998. Nygard faces one count of sexual assault and one count of forcible confinement.
Nygard, who founded the now-defunct women’s apparel firm Nygard International, is currently in custody in Toronto and awaiting a similar trial on related charges scheduled for September.
In addition to his scheduled appearance in Quebec court on April 4, 2024, where he will face questions about the admissibility of certain records related to his alleged victim, he is also due to appear in a Manitoba court later this month, where he is challenging an extradition order to the US on charges of sex trafficking and racketeering.
