North Korea’s official mouthpiece has accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of jeopardizing his people’s lives by developing nuclear weapons or allowing US nuclear weapons on Ukraine’s territory. The statement was made by Kim Yo Jong, sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, in response to a petition posted on Zelenskyy’s website. Kim labelled the petition a “sinister political plot” but provided no evidence to support her claim. She warned Zelenskyy against underestimating Russia, stating that relying on America’s nuclear protection isn’t a viable means of defeating Russia. The petition came after Russia’s president, Vladimir Putin, announced plans to deploy nuclear weapons in Belarus. In unrelated news, the US believes that Russia is seeking a deal with North Korea exchanging food for arms. North Korea has fired more than 70 missiles, including a “monster missile,” in 2021, and China and Russia vetoed any resolution to impose sanctions over these actions.
