An Argentine court has ordered that eight healthcare professionals be put on trial for the death of soccer legend Diego Maradona in 2020. Although the date for the trial has not been set, it is unlikely to take place before next year as per the court’s announcement. A medical board’s report claimed that Maradona was in extreme pain for over 12 hours and could still be alive had he been given better treatment. The court confirmed the charges of “homicide by negligence” brought against the members of Maradona’s medical team, including neurosurgeon Leopoldo Luque, psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov, and others. Maradona, who helped Argentina win the 1986 World Cup, passed away due to a heart attack on Nov. 25, 2020. He was 60 years old. Although Maradona’s autopsy revealed natural causes, his medical team is accused of failing to provide adequate care.
