The lawyer of the former truck driver responsible for the fatal Humboldt Broncos bus crash will have the opportunity to argue against his potential deportation as the Federal Court has granted permission. Jaskirat Singh Sidhu received an eight-year sentence in 2019 after pleading guilty to dangerous driving causing death and bodily harm in the Saskatchewan collision that claimed 16 lives and injured 13 others. The Canada Border Services Agency suggested in the previous year that Sidhu be transferred to the Immigration and Refugee Board to determine if he should be deported to India. The case will be heard in July, according to Michael Greene, Sidhu’s attorney. Greene noted that his client, who is currently employed in Calgary after being released from jail, was overjoyed to receive some positive news. If he is successful, the Canada Border Services Agency will conduct another review.
