Dennis Akpomedaye, a failed businessman, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for stalking and murdering his former girlfriend, Ania Jedrkowiak, as she walked home from work with her new boyfriend, Jack Maskell, in May 2022. Akpomedaye, who wore a mask, attacked Jedrkowiak with a knife from behind a church, stabbing her 40 times. Prosecutors argued that the murder was premeditated, pointing to a voice note he left on the Stereo app a week before Jedrkowiak’s killing. In the note, which he apparently recorded while talking to himself, Akpomedaye said “if you’re going to find her, kill her, stab her, monster”. Judge Rajeev Shetty said the murder was brutal and jailed Akpomedaye for a minimum of 29 years.
