The government has offered its final proposal to the union representing over 100,000 striking public service workers. The Treasury Board released a statement stating that the proposal includes an improved wage package and solutions for dealing with issues such as telework and seniority, but did not provide further details. The strike by members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada has been ongoing for eleven days. Contracts have expired for 155,000 federal workers, with 46,000 deemed essential and exempt from taking part in the job action. The union has confirmed receipt of the offer and has resumed negotiations with the Treasury Board. The government’s previous wage offer included increases of 1.5%, 4.5%, and 3% for 2021, 2022, and 2023, respectively. Some of the sticking points in negotiations include the flexibility to work remotely and the implementation of seniority rules in the case of layoffs.
