Victoria’s state government will oversee the planning of future renewable energy projects and their transmission through government agency VicGrid, according to Energy Minister Lily D’Ambrosio. The new Victorian Transmission Investment Framework will also establish new priority areas by early 2024 and release a transmission plan for consultation later in the year. However, two existing controversial transmission blueprints, the Victoria-to-New South Wales Interconnector West (VNI West) project and the Western Renewables Link, will remain under the auspices of the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO). VicGrid has been praised for its accountability and coordination but some farmers and landholders remain unhappy that issues relating to their rights have not been fully addressed in the new framework.
