Uber is urging thousands of Australian restaurants to switch from plastic containers to sustainable alternatives in a bid to reduce waste and make their food deliveries more eco-friendly. The changes will be rolled out over the next three years, with the goal of cutting 80% of “unnecessary plastic waste” by 2025. Uber plans to work with partners, including the World Wildlife Fund, to create guidelines for reusable, recyclable or compostable food packaging. The eco-friendly items would need to be adopted by over 50,000 restaurants partnering with Uber Eats in Australia and New Zealand. The company aims to replace plastic packaging entirely by 2030.
