Residents forced to evacuate their homes due to the Alberta wildfires will receive emergency financial assistance from the government. Premier Danielle Smith announced that households that have been evacuated and displaced for at least seven consecutive days will receive $1,250 per adult and an additional $500 for each dependent child below 18 years old. The funds will aid evacuees in covering their accommodations, food, and other necessities. Applications can be submitted online through a verified alberta.ca account, or by calling the wildfire resource line. Remote residents residing in Indigenous reserves and Metis settlements are also eligible for the assistance. In addition, the government has requested military aid from the federal government to aid firefighting efforts and prevent looting and disorder in evacuated communities. The response is currently at the highest level as there are 98 wildfires burning in the province, 17 states of local emergencies, and two band council resolutions in effect.
