The film “Yesterday” depicts a scene where the main character, Jack, is overwhelmed with joy upon seeing a former Beatle member alive and well in a seaside cottage. Such “what if” scenarios are common in music history. What if The Beatles had never broken up? What if famous musicians had not passed away prematurely? The advent of artificial intelligence (AI) in creating music and art has led to speculation about what could have been. AI can replicate the voices of deceased singers, create entirely new works for composers who have passed away, and even complete unfinished symphonies. However, questions arise about the role of AI in society and whether it should be allowed to push creative boundaries. Conductors in the classical music industry argue that AI-driven music will impact commercial music more than artistic works. Furthermore, they believe that works of art should be preserved and not abandoned. While AI has the capacity to create art, it lacks the conscious experience to give meaning to its creations, and humans must remain in control of its use.
