According to Public Services and Procurement Minister Helena Jaczek, the government is planning to come up with a decision for the future of 24 Sussex Drive by autumn, as she appeared before a House committee on government operations.
Opposition MPs questioned Jaczek about the time frame for a decision about the official residence of the Prime Minister, which has been closed due to numerous issues such as rodent infestation. The current work being done, including the removal of asbestos and electrical systems, is expected to take one year and cost the government $4.3 million, regardless of what decision is made about the building’s future.
As per Jaczek, the government is waiting for a detailed list of options from the National Capital Commission regarding the property’s future and anticipates having a decision by autumn.
