Former President Donald Trump claimed during a televised forum that officials are downplaying the true number of casualties in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, stating that “the deaths are far more than they’re reporting”. Trump also stated that he could end the war in 24 hours by leveraging his ability to talk with leaders of both countries. The United Nations Human Rights Office has confirmed at least 8,791 noncombatants were killed in Ukraine, with 14,815 individuals injured, but acknowledged the actual death toll is likely considerably higher. Recently leaked US intelligence documents contained highly classified information alleging that up to 354,000 Ukrainian and Russian soldiers had been killed or injured since the start of Moscow’s invasion. However, neither country has confirmed the authenticity of these documents.
