Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on Saturday in Kyiv that Canada will allocate $500 million to support Ukraine’s military in its fight against Russia’s invasion. He emphasized that they are fighting for “the future of us all” and supporting Ukraine’s bid for membership in the NATO military alliance. Trudeau also promised more weapons, fighter-pilot training, and aid for those coping with the worsening humanitarian situation in southern Ukraine. The two leaders also issued a joint declaration with a dozen points that largely reiterated Canada’s actions for Ukraine. The visit comes as signs show a long-awaited spring counteroffensive against Russia could be underway.
