The Conservative Democratic Organisation (CDO), a new group loyal to former Prime Minister Boris Johnson, held its first conference in Bournemouth on Saturday. The group pledges to restore democracy to the Conservative grassroots and has faced criticism from within the party ranks, with members lamenting the ousting of Johnson and accusing the parliamentary Conservative party of turning their back on the membership. However, the group stopped short of suggesting that Johnson should make a return. The Conservative Party lost more than 1,000 councillors and control of 48 councils overall in the local elections earlier this month, and Brexiteering MPs were further angered last week by the government’s decision to revoke around 600 EU laws, rather than the 4,000 pledged, by the end of the year.
