The United States State Department announced that a three-day ceasefire has been agreed upon by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) after intense negotiations. The nationwide ceasefire will begin at midnight local time and is hoped to serve as the basis for permanent negotiations to end theĀ violent conflict in Sudan. The conflict has killed hundreds of people, including children, and left thousands of foreigners stranded in the country. The ceasefire will open humanitarian corridors and allow the safe evacuation of foreign diplomats and aid workers. The RSF confirmed their agreement to the ceasefire and readiness to cooperate, coordinate and provide safety facilities for expatriates and missions to leave the country safely. Health officials warn that critical life-saving care for severely malnourished children has been disrupted andĀ prompted multiple countries, including the UnitedĀ States, to evacuate their diplomatic staff and shut down their embassies.
