Scotland’s First Minister Humza Yousaf announced on Saturday that the Scottish National Party (SNP) government will undertake a review of its governance and transparency policies, following an SNP National Executive Council meeting. However, Yousaf denied claims that the party was near bankruptcy. The move comes after former First Minister Nicola Sturgeon’s husband, former party chief executive Peter Murrell, was arrested in a police investigation into SNP’s finances. An auditor also recently resigned from the party. Yousaf stated that the review would include external financial oversight and an interim report was expected in June, with the full report due in autumn. At a campaign event, he said he was ‘hopeful’ of winning if a by-election is held in the Rutherglen and Hamilton West constituency, but Scottish Labour deputy leader Jackie Baillie said the SNP was ‘chaotic and divided’.
