The Vancouver police are investigating a violent incident that occurred at a Transgender Day of Visibility event on March 31 in Grandview Park. Videos posted on social media showed Chris Elston, a man who opposes puberty blockers for children, being attacked and beaten by individuals holding transgender flags. He sustained injuries but did not receive help from the police on the scene. Elston claims that he has been regularly assaulted, spit on, and had his signs destroyed since he began his advocacy work in October 2020. Despite the attack, he vows to continue his conversations with the public about the issue. Other activists, including Amrit Birring and Harm Bomm, have also faced aggression at similar events. The Vancouver police have promised a full investigation and will hold accountable those who engaged in violence and criminal behavior.
