A recent national poll reveals that a majority of households would benefit from extra help installing rooftop solar and batteries, and there is support for subsidies to assist low-income households in accessing solar. The poll, conducted by Solar Citizens, found that 79% of respondents want federal assistance for energy bill relief through access to affordable solar installations. Despite the potential cost savings of rooftop solar, many households are unable to afford the upfront costs and face other barriers to accessing the technology. The poll also found that 75% of respondents supported budget funding for interest-free loans for homeowners to purchase rooftop solar and 79% backed taxpayer funding for installations on public and community housing. The Queensland Conservation Council welcomed the budget allocation for energy bill relief, but argued that larger-scale investment was necessary to address the environmental impacts of energy generation and the cost of living crisis. Alongside bill relief, Climate Change and Energy Minister Chris Bowen confirmed the budget would support more large-scale renewable storage and household electrification.
