The Ontario government has unveiled a $204 billion budget for 2023, which includes funding for highway expansion and construction, hospital infrastructure, child care spaces, capital grants, and transit. The budget predicts a small surplus of $200 million in 2024-25, three years earlier than forecasted. The government has announced plans to invest in manufacturing by launching a 10% refundable corporate income tax credit for manufacturers producing goods in Ontario. Additionally, there will be $27.9 billion invested in highway expansion and rehabilitation projects, including Highway 413, the Bradford Bypass, and the new Highway 7. The government has committed $70.5 billion over the next decade for transit, which includes improving transit rail and making the largest subway expansion in Canadian history. Hospital infrastructure is set to receive $48 million, with plans to add 3,000 more hospital beds in the next ten years. The government also plans to address health care shortages, allocating a total budget of $81 billion, with $200 million set aside for workforce training and $500 million for home care. Other projects outlined in the budget include expanding the guaranteed income program for seniors and providing additional support for homeless and indigenous housing projects.
