A group of people gathered at a park to honor the memory of a mother and her 11-year-old child, who were victims of a stabbing outside an elementary school in southeast Edmonton. The victims were identified as Carolann Robillard, a single Cree mother of three, and Sarah Miller, who had started using the first name Jayden. The suspect, who matched the description provided by witnesses, was shot by police after an altercation and was in critical condition. The police were unsure of the suspect’s relationship with the victims. The incident took place in broad daylight, causing shock and sadness in the community. The division’s Critical Incident Support Services team will be available at the elementary school on Monday morning when classes resume.
