The Chinese Family Service of Greater Montreal (SFCGM), a long-standing agency in Chinatown, is being investigated by the RCMP for suspicion of hosting a Chinese police station. SFCGM recently removed a document from its website that allegedly had the same logo as a CCP department. An intake form on SFCGM’s website contained a QR code promoting an app called QiaoBao, which is operated by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office and is used to communicate with Chinese expats worldwide. The form asked for social insurance numbers, birthplaces, statuses in Canada, incomes, and WeChat account names. MP Michael Chong voiced concerns that the information being collected could be used by the CCP for data collection and political interference. The RCMP is looking into alleged Chinese police stations operating in the Montreal area.
