A frustrating and confusing meeting with Porter Davis liquidators has left potential homebuyers with more questions than answers. On Tuesday, Grant Thornton hosted a webinar for Porter Davis customers, but the meeting quickly hit capacity, leaving many blocked from attending. Porter Davis’ demise affects over 1,700 properties in Victoria and Queensland, with an estimated 1,500 in Victoria alone. However, this number does not include Porter Davis customers who have taken possession of their homes with a lengthy list of defects that the builder agreed to fix. Many homeowners fear that they will be overlooked in the process of the liquidation. The liquidators have yet to contact many customers and the investigation will determine whether Porter Davis was trading while insolvent and if they did wrong by customers. Furthermore, reports have emerged of Porter Davis homes being targeted, with one going up in flames in Melbourne’s southeast. Grant Thornton has issued multiple notices to suppliers and contractors warning them of criminal liability for unauthorised site access, whilst Premier Daniel Andrews has encouraged affected people to get in touch with the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority.
