Akwesasne Mohawk police have confirmed the connection but have yet to provide further information. The man, 30-year-old Oakes, is still missing and authorities are actively searching for him. The eight victims are allegedly two families, with one of Romanian and one of Indian descent, who attempted to illegally cross into the United States from Canada through Akwesasne Mohawk Territory. Oakes was last seen operating a boat that was found alongside the migrants’ bodies. Some of his clothing has also been discovered.
