Provincial police have identified Keven Girard, a 37-year-old man who was among the group of casualties. Divers located his body in the St. Lawrence river and he was pronounced dead in the hospital. Girard lived in Les Bergeronnes, a village situated along the river’s shore approximately 60 km southwest of the site of the accident in Portneuf-sur-Mer. The four children, all aged over ten, were discovered unresponsive on the river bank on Saturday subsequent to the incident. This occurred several hours after a 2 a.m. emergency call regarding a group of people swept up by the tide near the North Coast village of Portneuf-sur-Mer, located approximately 550 km northeast of Montreal. The police explained that there were 11 people in the group who were fishing for capelin on the shore, and the rising waters caught them off-guard.
