Jason Lietaer, the chief strategist behind Danielle Smith’s recent win to be reinstated as premier of Alberta, revealed in an editorial in the Calgary Herald how Smith won the election. Lietaer stated that a killer debate, discipline, and a mistake from her opposition, Rachel Notley, were the keys to Smith’s success. Lietaer said Smith’s team remained calm, tight, friendly, and relentlessly focused on the concerns of Albertans, while also holding Notley’s record accountable. Notley’s mistake, in Lietaer’s opinion, was announcing a 38 percent business tax increase. This, combined with Smith’s discipline and strong emphasis on the economy, led to her victory with 52.6 percent of the popular vote and a total of 49 seats out of 87.
