Hyundai Auto Canada Corp. has been found guilty of six counts of violating the Motor Vehicle Safety Act by Transport Canada. The company failed to issue notices of safety defects within the mandatory 60-day period and has been fined $360,000 accordingly. Transport Minister Omar Alghabra expressed concern that Hyundai had failed to inform car owners of the recalls on six separate occasions, with nearly 300,000 vehicles affected. The issues ranged from fires and reduced brake performance to sudden engine power loss. The company acknowledged that timing requirements had been missed during the COVID pandemic but claimed to have immediately rectified the issue and taken responsibility.
