Australia’s Snowy Hydro 2.0, the country’s largest renewable energy project, has faced further delays, with its completion now expected to be delayed by one to two years. CEO Dennis Barnes cited issues with tunnelling machines, labour and materials availability, and the impact of the pandemic as key sources of the delay. The project will connect two dams in New South Wales and use excess energy to pump water from the lower dam to the higher one, generating electricity during peak periods. The scheme was initially slated for completion in 2021, with an estimated cost of $2bn, which has since been revised to $5.1bn.
