French President Emmanuel Macron has pledged to send 100 firefighters to help battle more than 150 wildfires that have caused thousands of Quebec residents to evacuate. Quebec Premier Francois Legault thanked Macron, while Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also expressed his gratitude and stressed the strength of the partnership between the two countries. Quebec’s forest fire prevention group has issued a statement saying it is “currently fighting a high number of fires,” with priorities focused on protecting human life, communities, and essential infrastructure. The military has been assisting in Quebec, with firefighters and experts also mobilised.
