Brendan Murphy, the secretary of the Australian federal Department of Health, has stated that vaccine mandates in Australia are no longer justified, despite their continued use in government departments and some parts of the private sector. Murphy argued that since the population is highly vaccinated, mandates are unlikely to achieve much and may be disproportionate. Some healthcare settings may have justified their use in the early phases of the pandemic. Murphy’s comments came after a question from Senator Matt Canavan regarding radiologists’ inability to provide services in regional areas due to vaccine mandates. One Nation Senator Malcolm Roberts welcomed Murphy’s comments but called for immediate action to end mandates and the passage of One Nation’s vaccine discrimination bill. Concerns around vaccine injuries are growing, with some workers in the public and private sector required to be vaccinated despite their increasing awareness of the risks.
