The former Prime Minister of Canada, Brian Mulroney, has undergone treatment for prostate cancer in Montreal and is currently recovering. His daughter, Caroline Mulroney, issued a statement assuring the public that her father is expected to return to his daily life in a few weeks. The Toronto Star reported that the treatment began last fall after an interview with his son, Mark. Mulroney, who served as Prime Minister from 1984 to 1993, negotiated the first free trade agreement with the United States that later became NAFTA. His daughter expressed gratitude for the support her family received from the public while also describing her father as a fighter. In September, Mulroney gave a eulogy for Queen Elizabeth II in Ottawa where he praised the monarch’s efforts in opposing apartheid during his term in office.
