In the entire 2022 calendar year, 33,410 electric vehicles were sold, making up 3.1 percent of the total for the year. In October, EV sales accounted for 5.7 percent of the market. Vehicle sales in Australia reached a new record with 112,141 vehicles delivered in November. The statistics reveal that in the year to date, Australians have bought more than 1.1 million vehicles, with every state and territory seeing an increase in sales compared to the previous year.
FCAI Chief Executive Tony Weber emphasized the variety of vehicle options available at different price points, attributing the record-breaking numbers to strong consumer demand. While noting the resilience and adaptability of the automotive sector, he also expressed the possibility of a market cooling in the coming months due to cost-of-living pressures, which could present challenges in the year ahead.
Toyota emerged as the top-selling market in November with 21,002 sales, followed by Mazda, Ford, Hyundai, and Mitsubishi. The Ford Ranger was the most popular type of vehicle in Australia with 6,301 sales, followed by the Toyota HiLux, Isuzu Ute D-Max, Tesla Model Y, and Toyota Prado.
