Two more individuals, including a baby, have been found dead by police in the Mohawk Territory of Akwesasne. These fatalities are in addition to the five adults and one child from two families of Romanian and Indian heritage whose bodies were discovered on Thursday. The Mohawk Police Chief has stated that the eight deceased are believed to have been attempting to illegally cross the US-Canadian border. One of the victims found on Friday was part of the Romanian family, while the other was thought to be an Indian national. Akwesasne residents and authorities are still looking for Casey Oakes, who was previously seen operating a boat that was located near the migrants’ bodies. The police force’s first responders are under heightened risk, with the recent surge in human smuggling in the region.
