China launched the Fengyun-3G weather satellite on April 17, and Taiwan’s Defense Ministry reported that rocket wreckage fell into its northern waters, where China had previously imposed a three-day no-fly zone. Taiwan’s Ministry of Transportation noted that Beijing had reduced the flight ban from three days to 27 minutes, following Taiwan’s protest. The Chinese maritime safety agency warned about possible falling debris in the waters north of Taiwan and prohibited vessels from entering on April 17. On the same day, Taiwan’s Armed Forces detected 18 Chinese aircraft and four naval vessels near the island, with four aircraft entering southwest and southeast of Taiwan’s air defense identification zone. The Taiwanese military responded by scrambling aircraft, mobilizing naval vessels, and deploying land-based missile systems in defense.
