Fifty doctors have expressed their support for cardiologist Dr. Aseem Malhotra and raised concerns about the efforts to silence him. The doctors, organized by campaign groups Doctors for Patients U.K., U.K. Medical Freedom Alliance, and HART, released a statement criticizing the Good Law Project for taking the General Medical Council (GMC) to court over its decision not to punish Dr. Malhotra for his criticism of the Covid vaccine. They find it unsettling that a publicly funded entity like the Good Law Project would use its legal machinery to silence an ethical doctor.
The doctors express their solidarity with Dr. Malhotra and express their concerns about the Good Law Project’s legal action against the GMC. They believe that the action undermines the ability of medical professionals to speak candidly on important health issues, which could have profound consequences for patient safety and ethical medical practice. They drafted the statement to demonstrate the significant number of doctors who support Dr. Malhotra and are opposed to the case and its impact on the medical profession.
Dr. Malhotra has called for the suspension of all Covid-19 mRNA vaccines until their side effects are thoroughly investigated. He used to support these vaccines but changed his stance after his father’s sudden death prompted him to reevaluate the data. The Good Law Project, founded by left-wing barrister Jolyon Maugham, started a legal fundraiser earlier this year in collaboration with a group of doctors to demand that the GMC investigate doctors who spread vaccine misinformation on social media. The group is seeking fitness to practice proceedings and sanctions against Dr. Malhotra. However, the GMC has previously stated that it would not investigate Dr. Malhotra because his statements did not warrant action, and he has the right to freedom of speech.
The campaign groups emphasize the importance of freedom of speech and patient safety. They question why the Good Law Project, which claims a commitment to transparency and a better world, is using its legal power to silence professionals instead of focusing on ensuring the full release of Covid-19 vaccine trial data. Dr. Elizabeth Evans, co-founder and CEO of UK Medical Freedom Alliance, sees this case as a threat to both freedom of speech and patient safety. She believes it is essential for doctors to be able to express concerns about potentially dangerous products without fear.
Dr. Malhotra states that the judge has not yet decided whether the case will go to the High Court. He defends himself, stating that he has always followed the GMC’s code of practice and has been a proponent of ethical evidence-based medical practice. He believes that those calling for his punishment may be ignorant of the evidence regarding the benefits and harms of Covid-19 mRNA vaccines. The Epoch Times has contacted The Good Law Project and the GMC for comments on the matter.
