Republic, an anti-monarchy campaign group, reported that the leader and five members of the team were arrested prior to the coronation of King Charles III. Despite this, tens of thousands of individuals cheered on the royal procession and military parade at Westminster Abbey in London, in what is the biggest ceremonial event the city has seen in 70 years. London Police Chief Mark Rowley warned on Friday that there would be “very low tolerance for disruption” and deployed over 11,000 officers in central London during the event. The Metropolitan Police have now confirmed several arrests for possible offenses such as conspiracy to cause public nuisance and breaching the peace. Protesters were reportedly detained for wearing “Not My King” t-shirts and possessing placards. Amnesty International UK and Human Rights Watch both criticized the police investigation.
