The conflict in Sudan continues despite a ceasefire agreement and could lead to 800,000 people fleeing the country, according to the United Nations. The fighting between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces began on April 15 and has resulted in hundreds of deaths and thousands of injuries. The situation has also caused severe damage in Khartoum, a humanitarian crisis, and the possibility of regional destabilization. Both sides agreed to extend the ceasefire by 72 hours on Sunday, but air strikes and artillery persisted on Monday. The UN refugee agency is planning for 815,000 people to flee the country, including foreign refugees residing in Sudan. Some people have already fled to neighbouring countries, including Egypt, Chad, South Sudan, and Ethiopia, while others have crossed the Red Sea to Saudi Arabia. The United Nations has reported at least 528 fatalities and 4,599 injuries, but believes the actual number is much higher. The situation has also caused hardship and danger for those who stayed behind in Sudan.
