As the United States imposes sanctions on China and American companies withdraw from the country, Vietnam is receiving attention from the United States. A large American business delegation is set to visit Vietnam, attracting global interest in this fast-growing Asian country. Experts identify three factors driving Vietnam’s rapid rise: system reform, strategic positioning in the Indo-Pacific economic landscape, and demographic benefits. Over 50 companies, including SpaceX, Netflix, and Boeing plan to explore investment and trade opportunities in Vietnam. The country’s GDP grew 8.02% YoY in 2022, and its per capita GDP rose by $393 compared to the previous year. Increasingly, foreign companies prefer Vietnam over China for their factories. Vietnam’s demographic dividend is its clear age advantage over China, with almost 88% of the employed population aged 25 to 59. Vietnam’s population is projected to exceed 100 million by April 2023, making it the third most populous country in Southeast Asia. Vietnam has also developed good neighborly relations with almost all countries in the Indo-Pacific region, including the United States. In particular, the United States has arranged two aircraft carrier visits to Vietnam in two years amid territorial disputes with China in the South China Sea.
