The transfer of additional weapons from North Korea to Russia has raised concerns in the United States, after North Korean leader Kim Jong Un expressed his “full support” for Russia amid the ongoing war in Ukraine. Despite North Korea denying involvement, a State Department spokesperson confirmed that North Korea had delivered infantry rockets and missiles to the Russian private military firm Wagner Group in November 2022. It remains unclear how many weapons were transferred, but evidence suggests that North Korea supplied weapons to Wagner. In March, the White House claimed that Russia was planning to send a delegation to North Korea to buy more weapons in exchange for food aid. Russia also delivered 3,225 barrels of refined oil to North Korea in December 2022, despite UN sanctions. British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly called this “a clear breach of U.N. Security Council Resolutions.”
